Chapter four of How People Learn : Processes That Support Learning outlines three major points when discussing how people orchestrate their own learning: metacognition, executive function, and self-regulation (National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, 2018). Each of these domains and how they interplay ties in with Gura's Innovation Process found in Chapter 4 of the text in that higher levels of thinking are required to execute this process (Gura, 2016). The ITSE standard 1.1.a goes right along with the idea of self-regulation described in chapter four of How People Learn as it involves students articulating and setting personal learning goals (International Society of Technology in Education, 2023).
